Using Reiki to Release Tension and Restore Balance
In the hustle and bustle of daily life, it's easy to accumulate stress, tension, and emotional baggage. Over time, these energies can manifest in our bodies as tightness, discomfort, or a general sense of heaviness. Fortunately, Reiki offers a gentle yet powerful way to address these physical and emotional blockages by bringing healing energy into the areas that need it most.
By incorporating Reiki into your daily self-care routine, you can align your body, mind, and spirit, allowing yourself to restore balance and experience deeper relaxation. A beautiful and simple practice that is easy to integrate is placing your hands on areas of the body that feel restricted or tense and sending healing energy with love and intention. Here's how to practice this deeply healing technique:
1. Tune In to Your Body’s Needs
The first step in incorporating Reiki into your self-care routine is becoming more aware of your body. Pay attention to areas that feel restricted, heavy, or tight. These may be places where emotional stress or physical discomfort has been stored. Common areas include the shoulders, lower back, chest, and head.
2. Create a Calm Environment
Find a quiet space where you won’t be disturbed. Light a candle or use essential oils to set the mood for relaxation. You might also play soft, calming music or nature sounds to create a peaceful atmosphere. This helps to signal your mind and body that it's time to relax and heal.
3. Begin with Mindful Breathing
Take a few deep, slow breaths to center yourself. As you inhale, imagine drawing in healing energy from the Universe, Source, or God. As you exhale, release any tension or negativity you may be holding. Focus on the sensation of your breath filling and emptying your lungs, calming your mind, and grounding you in the present moment.
4. Place Your Hands on Areas of Discomfort
Start by placing your hands gently on the areas of your body that feel the most tight or heavy. This could be your shoulders, chest, or abdomen. Allow your hands to rest softly and comfortably, without applying pressure. Trust that the energy will flow where it is needed most.
5. Send Love and Healing Energy
With each breath, begin to visualize a warm, golden light emanating from your hands. This light represents divine love, healing, and pure energy. You can say something like, “I send the love of Source, God, and the Universe to this area, bringing comfort, healing, and release.”

6. Focus on the Present Moment
As you continue to send healing energy, keep your attention on the sensation of your hands on your body. You may feel a gentle warmth or a tingling sensation as the energy flows. This is a sign that the Reiki energy is working. Let go of any need to "do" anything and simply allow yourself to receive the healing energy. The more present you are, the more you will feel the energy shifting.
7. Move to Other Areas as Needed
If you notice other areas of your body calling for attention, move your hands to those spots. You can go through your whole body or simply focus on one area at a time. Sometimes, the energy may naturally guide you to move your hands around or adjust your position as it finds the areas that need the most healing.
8. Close with Gratitude
Once you feel complete or your body feels more balanced, take a few more deep breaths and offer gratitude for the healing energy you’ve received. Thank yourself for taking the time to care for your body, and acknowledge the power of Reiki in helping you to heal and restore balance.
9. Carry the Energy with You
Reiki can have lasting effects, even after you finish your practice. As you move throughout your day, carry the sense of peace and relaxation you’ve cultivated. If you feel tension building up again, simply place your hands on the area of discomfort, take a deep breath, and send love and healing energy once more.
