Reiki for Burnout and Overwhelm
Burnout doesn’t only affect the mind—it affects the entire body and energy system. When we experience prolonged stress, emotional strain, or constant demands, our energy can become depleted. This depletion often shows up as fatigue, brain fog, irritability, and a feeling of being overwhelmed.
Reiki can support the body during burnout by encouraging relaxation and helping restore energetic balance. During a Reiki session, the body often shifts out of a stress response and into a state that supports rest and recovery. Many people report feeling calmer, clearer, and more grounded after a session.
Burnout is also connected to areas of the body where we tend to hold tension, particularly around the heart, stomach, and lower body. Practicing self-Reiki can help bring awareness and gentle support to these areas.
Below is a simple sequence of hand positions that can be used during self-Reiki when working with burnout and overwhelm.
Reiki Hand Positions for Burnout
Crown of the Head
Hover your hands just above the crown of your head (or rest them lightly).
Send loving, soothing Reiki to quiet the noise, soften mental pressure, and invite stillness back in.
Third Eye
Bring your hands to your forehead (or hover).
Offer Reiki to release overthinking, clear the fog, and return you to calm inner knowing.
Heart Center
Place your hands over your heart.
Send Reiki like a warm blanket, comfort, compassion, and safety—especially if you’ve been carrying too much for too long.
Solar Plexus
Place your hands over the upper belly.
Send Reiki to restore your personal power, steady your energy, and gently dissolve the “I have to do it all” feeling.
Lower Abdomen
Place your hands below the navel.
Send Reiki to replenish your reserves, nourish your body, and bring you back into yourself.
Root
Place your hands over the pelvis/lower belly (or rest them on the upper thighs).
Send Reiki to the Root with the intention: “I am safe. I am supported.”
Let this energy settle you, ground you, and help your system feel held enough to truly rest.
A Simple 10-Minute Reiki Practice for Burnout
Sit comfortably with both feet on the floor. Set your intention.
Take three slow, deep breaths.
Move through the hand positions above, staying at each one for a few minutes.
Allow your body to relax without trying to force anything to happen.
When you've completed the session, give thanks to Reiki for the healing energy.
Even short Reiki practices can help shift the body out of overwhelm and reconnect you with a sense of calm. Burnout recovery takes time, and practices like Reiki offer a gentle way to restore balance and reconnect with your energy.
